Just a breath away from the Mendel Pass

Get to the top in record time

Breathtaking views and fresh air at 1,364 metres?

The Mendel Pass is an excellent hiking destination in both summer and winter. Once at the top, there are a variety of walking and cycling options, and you can take the funicular to get back to the starting point at high altitude.

Timetables and tickets
The first step to having all the connections and tickets you need for your journey at your fingertips is to download the südtirolmobil app. The online ticket shop also sells single and return tickets for the Mendola/Mendel funicular.

Departing by bus
For a walk from Bolzano/Bozen, you can take bus number 131 (bus station) in the direction of Caldaro/Kalter and, at the Caldaro/Kalter station bus stop, change to bus number 138 to the hamlet of St. Anton/San Antonio. This is where the scenic ascent begins on the Mendola/Mendel funicular, one of the longest and steepest funiculars in Europe, built in 1903.

With a maximum gradient of 64 per cent, the 2,374-metre climb takes just 12 minutes to reach the top station at 1,364 metres, from where a spectacular curtain opens over Oltradige/Überetsch and Bassa Atesina/Unterland.
