Construction work has started on the redesign of Bressanone/Brixen train station and its surroundings. The redevelopment under the direction of STA – Südtiroler Transportstrukturen AG/Strutture Trasporto Alto Adige SpA – includes fully covered bicycle parking facilities, parking spaces for cars and new bus stops.
With up to 750,000 ticket check-ins in 2019 alone, Bressanone/Brixen train station ranks third in terms of passenger numbers just after Bolzano/Bozen and Merano/Meran. Now, thanks to co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund ERDF and after in-depth planning in consultation with the railway network operator RFI, the entire station forecourt is being converted into a state-of-the-art Mobility Centre.
True to the motto “Transfer made easy”, the surroundings including all access roads will be remodelled in a clear and user-friendly way – and with a strong focus on two-wheeled mobility: For added convenience, all platforms will be directly accessible from the almost 1,000 new underground bicycle parking spaces. In addition, parking lots for around 200 cars will be created, including parking and charging points for e-vehicles. A section with room for some 40 motorbikes and scooters as well as 16 short-term parking spaces will round off the facilities. Plus, all new bus stops will be covered and equipped with the latest in passenger information.
During to the construction works, the former train station car park will remain closed. Instead, two temporary parking lots are available on Via Velturno/Feldthurner Straße, and additional spaces can be found at the “Max” car park nearby. The bus stops along Via Stazione/Bahnhofstraße will remain unchanged until further notice.
